Early Years at Bleakhouse Primary School

Children begin their journey in our Early Years Foundation Stage where our learning environment is child-centred so that that our children make a great start to their education at Bleakhouse Primary School.

Your children will learn very quickly to interact with other children and adults as they engage in stimulating play and learning activities to help them to make friends, take turns, share and develop their use of language. Our priority is to ensure that your child is safe and happy so that they can enjoy learning to read, to play, to write, to sing, to investigate, to explore and to learn about numbers and shapes, as they engage in active learning, creative thinking and physical development.

We know that this might be the first time that your child has left home and their parents for any length of time or on regular basis. So, we work hard to make sure the children have a warm, welcoming and stimulating environment so that their first steps in education help them become independent learners as they move through the school.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum forms the basis of our learning programme for the children in Early Years. This gets them ready to begin working on the National Curriculum at 5 years of age.

The children are fully involved in the life of the school and join in with assemblies and parties and have lots of opportunities for contact with older children.

Our Early Years provision consists of a Nursery and two Reception classes:

  • The, 52 place, Nursery has two daily sessions, morning and afternoon, where we offer 15 hours provision for children who are 3 years of age.  We can also offer 30 hours provision for Parents who are eligible; please ask at the school office for more information.
  • The school arranges admission to Nursery and you can add your child to our waiting list at any time; places are allocated in the Spring Term each year for September entry.  We sometimes have places which become available during the school year but usually children start in the Autumn Term.
  • We have places for 60 children in our two Reception classes.  For Reception admission you can apply to Sandwell Council in the Autumn term for admission to Reception the following September - please follow the link to Admissions on the website.

Parent relationships are extremely important to us and we know that for your child to do well in school the partnership between parents and the school is vital. This is why we ensure that communication is as effective as possible and we will endeavour to answer any questions you have about your child as quickly and as effectively as we can.

If you would like more information about our Nursery and Reception classes please contact the school office to make an appointment. https://www.bleakhouseprimary.school/Page/Category/get-in-touch-
